TRANSFORM YOUR LEADERSHIP PART 2: Individualized Consideration

'Perception is reality'. This familiar quote has probably never been more true than it is today. People are highly informed (the internet) and have their own platform (social media, speed of communication through text and email) which means they can promote their perceptions at the speed of sound, light, or any other thing that moves really fast. So how people perceive your influence is really reality.

'Am I known?' This simple question strikes at the heart of some of our most basic needs and reasons we gravitate towards others. Those that yield influence on others have the ability to make them feel like they know them. This is called 'INDIVIDUALIZED CONSIDERATION'.

The challenge is to make practical efforts to really know the people you are responsible to influence. A couple simple questions can help you gauge this. For example, do you know the name of the people they care the most about? Or when is the last time you practically assisted them with a simple everyday task? Have you ever publicly complimented them for a an achievement, success, or positive contribution?  The list of questions is endless, but if you can't come up with your own list and your own answers to that list the likelihood that the people you are supposed to be influencing feel that you know them is probably pretty slim. You are very unlikely to be able to assist them into transforming into the best version of themselves. And the chances that you might need to transform your leadership are probably pretty large.
